Blocking the number they called from means you won’t get other critical notifications or direct calls, assuming this is the school’s main number. This is highly irresponsible to do as a parent.
Op again. I have 1 other call from them in April of last year. I'm not too worried about missing "critical calls" from mcps LoL.
For all the others on this thread- we recieved texts, emails and app messages at the same time as the phone call. Phone calls should be reserved for emergencies like a school shooting. A simple delay should not ring your cell phone at 5 : 40 in the morning.
If someone's grandmother hasn't signed up for the texts, the emails, can't read twitter or doesn't know how to work the app that's not my problem.

Newsflash: The school district serves 160,000 families. You might prefer email or texts. Other people ignore or skip that unless they get a phone call. The school has to cater to EVERYONE and with something as urgent as a school delay, the school needs to put that communication out in as many channels as possible. Otherwise, someone, somewhere will claim they "didn't know" about the two-hour delay. The fact that you can't wrap your feeble mind around this concept or the fact that the school system is not built around only you and your family's preferences is telling.

NP here. I get that, but in that case they should actually take note of your preferences and if you’ve not indicated you want calls (as in my case) you should NOT get them.

Thanks for sharing that funny sequence of things. My kids are out of the house and your story took me right back to when that used to happen and kids would be suited up to play outside in the .25 inches of snow while I was barely awake.😁

But then again, I know how to use my phone and my phone was set on do not disturb until my regular alarm went off at 7am. I saw the text banner that there was a two hour delay and went back to sleep. Well, I tried to go back to sleep — within 5 minutes the kids were running in screaming “It’s snowing!” (But I can’t really blame MCPS for that lol)

I think this is a you problem. You have very concrete ideas on when a phone call is warranted.
