Subject: Why would a man get married in 2023?
way worse deal for women and I am married to a man who does a lot, including all the grocery shopping and cooking every night. But women are always stuck with the unquantifiable chores and lift of all the mental drain of parenting. Christmas is about to break me, every single gift purchased and wrapped by me, the xmas card, all the other things like teacher gifts, extended family coordination. I work too. He has no idea he has a persnal assistant, event planner and joy creater living with him and the kids

I told my DD that when she and her BF get married, she will need to have at least two kids, possibly three, to make up for the prevailing preferences of being marriage-less and child-less as evidenced by three pages on this thread. They want to get married because they love each other and want to make a life together. Crazy, I know. They don’t see the relationship as a tick sheet of trade offs and transactions. You all are so jaded!!

I got married for the same reason as my parents and grandparents got married. They fell in love and wanted to make a life together. My parents have been married 45 years and my grandparents were married around 65 years.

Divorced woman here. The bolded is telling, and part of why I doubt I will marry again. I am financially secure, and the idea of linking myself to someone who is just looking for me to sacrifice myself for him - and then, likely, will leave me if/when *I* need something; along with a shorter lifespan for me (married women die younger than single women) - it just doesn't add up to a good choice.

Last, I tell every young man I know, "Do not get married, and if you're dumb enough to get married, DO NOT have children." Much better to have a series of girlfriends, and trade them in every couple of years.
Men need to start being more like women, and only take care of themselves.

Society dictates that people get married and have children for appearances, lest society think something is wrong with you. What happens is that people get married and have kids, create more problems for themselves, and think that those with "more money" have it so easy. In fact, they don't know what other people have or don't have - but continually comparing themselves to others inevitably makes them miserable. Why bother at all, really?
