PP here - I just read The Good Part in three nights! It was delightful - an easy read that was also really well done. Like a much better (plot and writing) Sophie Kinsella/Jennifer Weiner/Elin Hilderbrand book. I couldn’t put it down but was so sad when it was over.

Another poster that read and loved The Good Part thanks to this thread! I agree this was much better than the usual chick lit. I liked the motherhood aspects too and really loled at some parts.

Kindred by Octavia Butler. It’s very light on the sci fi.

I have heard such great things about that book but I lost my dad recently and I just can't bring myself to read it yet because I think it'll crack me. Hopefully one day.

I lost my dad a few years ago and it was a hard book for me — lots of tears — but a terrific story.

What a great thread! I’m listening to Cassandra in Reverse right now enjoying it. Love Jack Finney and Connie Willis. I didn’t hate Time Traveler’s Wife but also didn’t love it.

I’ve bookmarked Sea of Tranquility for next on the basis of the comments here…

I didn't love Station Eleven, but I tried Sea of Tranquility this weekend on your recommendation and LOVED it! Next up for me is The Glass Hotel, which apparently builds out the backstories of some of the minor characters in Sea of Tranquility.

Any other recommendations?

I am a big time travel fan and had never heard of this one. I was able to get the audiobook from Libby and it’s quite interesting. It was written in the 1980s and so when this guy goes back in time he goes to his college freshman year in 1963 and thinks of all the amazing things of the future in 1988.

A new quick read is The Second Chance Year, in which this 30-year-old pastry chef has a horrible year and a fortune teller sends her back to relive it. It’s a little predictable, but kind of fun.

And there’s a show on the Hallmark Channel ( really, the only thing I’ve ever watched on there!) called The Way Home about a mother and daughter who travel through a portal in a pond to try to better understand a family tragedy, and possibly change it. The second season started last night.

Technically all time travel is sci fi. But I get what you are after:

The Map of Tiny Perfect Things (also made into a film)
When You Reach Me
The Lost Bookshop (more over an overlapping or merging of timelines)

Also liked The Midnight Library, Time Travelers Wife, and Outlander. Ms. Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children fits the bill, but I found the beginning way too slow to truly recommend, but ultimately a good read.

Also recommend the films "About Time" and "The Age of Adeline." Both really well conceived.

I recommend Kate Atkinson’s Life After Life and Kathleen Flynn’s The Jane Austen Project.
