In my experience, the first born were only favored under extenuating circumstances. In my family, kids there were the only grandchild for 6-13 years, kids who lived FT with grandparents 2+ years (either as a multi-Gen household or due to parental illness), and kids who had a disability or health issue. Otherwise, the favorite was just as likely a personality thing.

No. In my family the favored grandchildren are those of the son. Sons are everything, and their children share in the spotlight. Daughters, meh.

I favor whoever is most well-behaved at the moment, whoever brings me what I need first, or whoever wants to do what I want to do in the moment. "Who wants to read a book with Nana?" "Who wants to keep me company while I make the potatoes?" "Who can bring my book to the table?" "Who wants to go for a walk with Nana?"

I tell each one they're my favorite.
