You should always wash your lettuce. There are videos of lettuce being dug up from the earth and bagged right in the field. https://www.reddit.com/r/Cooking/comments/nak2mu/no_matter_what_the_pack_says_wash_the_veggies/

Triple washed, torn salad mixes are not being prepared and packaged in the fields. You must be talking about lettuce that’s still intact. That needs to be rinsed thoroughly.

You are always supposed to rinse the bagged lettuce. https://www.today.com/health/recall/wegmans-recall-kale-microgreens-salmonella-rcna63593

Respectfully, you cannot wash off salmonella, and if you think that, your food safety knowledge is putting your family at risk.

the point is -- you don't trust the "triple washed" ad! THis also happened on Oct. 23. https://www.pennlive.com/food/2023/10/salad-kits-recalled-from-wegmans-because-of-allergy-risk.html. If wegmans can't manage testing for salmonella in its "triple washed" bag, imagine what ELSE is wrong with it. Why would you ever trust such a claim? Of course we wash it. takes seconds.

So because there’s potential contamination from something that *cannot* be washed off, we shouldn’t believe they washed the produce, and at the same time, you’re telling me we only need to spend “seconds” washing produce to make it safe to eat?

You have some wacky ideas.

That article doesn’t indicate that you should re-wash triple washed produce. They’re recalling the products because they’re potentially dangerous to eat regardless of whether they’re washed.

You’re replying to posts, but nothing you write is actually a response to the posts you’re quoting.

Yes. And then I set it on fire and put it down the garbage disposal because only a complete sociopath trusts the food safety of bagged salad at this point.

(I didn't read the whole thread but think maybe I am Team SIL?)

Anonymous wrote:I don’t wash triple washed greens. I rinse whole iceberg, green lettuce, and Romain lettuce with only water and spin it dry.

But if your sister-in-law keeps bothering you about how well you’ve washed greens when she comes over I would tell her that she always asks the same question and the answers the same. I would stop engaging.

I'm curious, OP, does the SIL ever eat out at a restaurant, or eat takeout or other prepared-by-others foods? Because there is no way they are doing the vinegar thing she is expecting you to do.
I would put my foot down. I wouldn't cook for her.

She used to eat out and had no problem. Past two years she became too much. I understand if her own kitchen was clean. The kitchen sponge was 100 year old and crusty last time I visited her.

This is OCD.

This sounds like anxiety/ OCD run amok. Whatever it is, you should not be forced to deal with it.

Btw washing meat spreads contamination all over your kitchen, you should stop doing this

She lives in a different state. Each year she comes and takes over the whole thing. I end up prepping/washing/cleaning/ and doing never ending chores. I don’t like confronting. But next time I am not going engage with her at all.

This is nuts. You absolutely need a hard boundary. I wouldn't do any food-related thing with this person at all.

I would not tolerate this behavior from a guest in my home. You shouldn’t either, OP. Find a way to put her in her place.

I've only heard of using vinegar to soak veggies when there is a risk of heavy metal contamination, usually root vegetables.

Huh? Where does it say that? You think rinsing the lettuce is going to wash the salmonella right off of it?
