Full College Scholarships on the Boys Side for Soccer are rare and limited.


It’s not about the money for the boys (there is barely any). But it can get you into a college you might otherwise not have gotten into (gives you an edge similar to other extra curriculars). If you are good enough it pushes you over the line assuming you meet a minimum standard for the school. If the goal is college support, showcases aren’t any different than debate tournaments that kids miss school for.


My kids stuck with getting the grades and scores- so they had the stats to apply anywhere. This also pushes you above the line of other players of sane skill. Hey coach- I have straight As and a 36 ACT.


This is not a flex. You need this to get in many schools anyway. You won't be accepted in the program if youre not accepted to the school. Have you seen the number of recent ivy admits for boys?

This!!! Sometimes you have to step back and assess the benefit of participating in all the stuff.


It's why these ECNL and MLSNEXT teams often carry rosters over 22-23. They anticipate not everyone making stuff--especially at the high school ages.

Op it isn't skipping. It's an acceptable excused absence. If a kid can't academically handle missing the time they shouldn't be involved in that activity.


Well, it may or may not be "acceptable excused" depending on the school system or even the specific school/administration. This year in Virginia at least a lot of the schools are becoming much more strict about attendance and absences because accreditation is tied to attendance.

Then take them out of the activity. Coaches and team members don't want these kids on the team.

Please don't join a team that does this. I hope you are planning on having your kid sit on the bench. This is travel soccer and if everyone decided that they couldn't play on friday, then they wouldn't be doing tournaments. You don't show up, then you don't get to play at other games.

My child has missed school for violin competitions/rehearsals and a long-running medical condition requiring surgeries.

Whatever the reason, missing class is never fun and the teacher has some extra thought to put into such students. DD has taken quizzes early, for example.
