There are 2nd line and also 3rd line anti-biotic medicines which can be used if the 1st-line medicine is not sufficiently effective. So the medical team have options. Let us all pray they are not needed now that DD is in CICU.

Good luck OP. I have an 8 year old DD and can’t imagine what you are feeling. She had a leg infection when she was 2 that required hospitalization for fear of sepsis. She had mersa (spell) and tried 2-3 antibiotics before finding the right one. I hope your girl has turned the corner and is on her way to recovery.

Regarding the questions on sepsis. It came from ab infection from the surgery wound, very unfortunate. We were told of the sepsis signs and should have taken her somewhere as soon as the fever took hold as a red flag. It can come after any big sickness or injury I think but is quite rare.
To the nurse on this thread, thank you for the support. How long will it take to get better for her. Not as in hospital discharge well, but then symptoms going down.
And thank you for the positive messages of recovery of others who know or have had it. It means a lot
Sending you big hugs, OP, as one of the PPs who’s had post-surgical sepsis. I remember they switched my antibiotic to something new after a day, maybe - something every provider called “The Big Gun” (Invanz/ertapenem) and which worked quickly. I’m sure her doctors are on top of it, just wanted to send reassurance in case they make a med change that it happens and isn’t necessarily cause for concern.
I hope the night went as well as possible and that your daughter is comfortable. I know you can only update when you can; please know that this internet stranger is thinking of your daughter and your family.

Whatever helps you get through this is ok. I think that her being a little “out of it” as you said is probably a good thing. Less aware keeps her less anxious. She’s in good hands.

Sending healing thoughts. Hospitals can be scary places but she is in the right place and will hopefully make a quick recovery. You caught this early. I have no experience with a child with sepsis but my elderly aunt had it. She was really sick by the time they figured it out but she still made a full recovery.
