Subject: Just moved, what is with county school districts?
Different kids are different. Different families have different philosophies and different priorities. One ought to choose the school which best fits one’s own kids and family.

In New England, it's done by town. This results in a lot of duplication of administrative services and added bureaucracy. It also creates a lot of have an have not areas since wealthier areas inevitably have more resources to fund schools whereas poorer areas are on their own.
Yeah whenever people talk about how great a town based school system would be I think about the amount of waste of resources to duplicate services.

Moved from Michigan. There are 526 public school districts in that State, and another 140 or so “public” charter schools. Then, obviously, many private schools. There are County public education programs to handle specialized instruction for things like mechanical skills, agricultural etc…

Posts like this should be ignored. There are larger trends that impact schools but that doesn't mean your kid can't get as a good or better education at any of these schools than 30 years ago. It just comes down to whether you and your children prioritize learning.
+1, you just have to know what particular pyramids are dumpster fires. Langley and Poolesville are still great schools.

Not that I was a fan, but Dan Quayle sent his kids to public school. It was the 80s so a different time for security. The Secret Service essentially gives Presidents a list of 4 schools they can attend because the schools have already made necessary security upgrades. This does not mean those school are the only "good" schools in the area.

Yes it's by town or city, or sometimes two smaller towns will team up and have a joint district.
Some people namely Republicans like this since it allows them to more easily gerrymander rich and poor into have and have not districts.

Western Loudon is a miserable commute to job centers between Dulles and Tysons. Eastern Loudon is an easy commute
Western Loudoun folks are farmers
And majority Republican. When there are crazy people yelling at the School Board meetings, 100% they are from west of Leesburg.
Well the school board’s policy’s are crazy, so there’s that. Have fun coping next Wednesday.
I know it's so crazy they try to educate all children and provide the same opportunities.
Where do your kids attend school? You sound very happy with LCPS, so help OP out!
DP, but we are in Ashburn (north of 267) and very happy with our school and community.
