UVA used to be discussed by my MD friends as an option for their kids, but over the past few years has seemed to turn into an obsession to get their kids in. Maybe it is a competition amount their peers? Maybe UMD is seen as second rate/they want to be out of state? Something seems to have changed in the past few years.
And then on this forum there is an obsession over it. I get it is a good school, but seems over the top.

I get it is a good school and price of tuition can’t be beat if you are instate.
But I don’t get the obsession from the MD crowd.
Is it just since they are influenced by the VA parents?
It's an amazing PUBLIC IVY! That is WAY WAY underrated.
See? Here is an example of a troll (pretending to be a "UVA booster") just stirring the pot.

Alabama, South Carolina, UTD, Tulsa for free rides. IL for CS. UC Bolder and U of Utah for merit + outdoorsy. Florida bcs there's some grandparent thing?
UVA really far far down on list of OOS public schools here these days. So much so I just inquired with friends about it and nobody had any interest.
Really? Lots of UVA grads in NYC working in diverse fields from Sotheby’s to State Street. You don’t indicate that you have a student looking at colleges right now— do you? I’m asking because your writing is juvenile with a misspelling or two. “Bolder,” lmao
You seem to be answering another question, maybe "was UVA popular with nyc kids 50 years ago" or "do UVA grads ever leave the state after graduation". I'm only asking because you are harping on things not on table, which is juvenile.

Where did you attend university?
not a state school
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:132 students at UVA from NY state.
That’s hardly a blip compared to a school like Michigan.
