There is such thing as AP precalc?

Yes. CB just introduced it. It's brand new this year.

I am trying to understand where your child is. You do not test into Algebra 2, you have to complete Algebra 1. The path in FCPS is Algebra 1, Geometry, then Algebra 2. You might be able to take Algebra 1 and then Algebra 2, that is what I did in the 80's but I was an exception at my school and it was allowed because I had an IEP that focused on Math. They wanted me to take the Algebra classes back to back so I would retain more of Algebra 1 for Algebra 2 and I was not taking Honors.

Math in FCPS MS is not an AAP class, it is a seperate line. There is no moving from Honors into AAP Math. There is a process for taking Algebra 1 Honors in 7th grade but that starts in 6th grade. Kids have to pass advanced on the 7th grade SOL (taken in 6th) and score in the 91rst percentile or higher on the IAAT.

I doubt that your child would be able to move into Algebra 1 H if your child is in Math 7 Honors in MS. THey will have missed a full quarter of work in a high school class. If your child is in Algebra 1 H right now and wants to take Algebra 2 H next year they could take Geometry Honors over the summer, although most people recommend against that because it is a very condensed course.

Did FCPS ever have AAP math in MS so the choice for AAP kids that did 7th grade math in ES wasn’t to skip 8th grade math or do 7th grade math again?

M7H is 8th grade math. They take the 8th grade math SOL at the end.

A lot of kids take math outside the school. So while in 6th AAP, they take 8th grade math and then algebra in the summer before 7th at an outside company and then continue that. So always at least year ahead with outside company (and can mean easy As at school in one class which some like).

Thank you PP for the really helpful note. You're right that my child is in Math 7 Honors and wants to do Algebra 1 H. She did 6th grade AAP and just missed the cutoff with her IAAT so she said she'd see what Math 7 Honors was like and she regrets it because it's not challenging enough for her and she's reviewing basic material that she did last year. I agree that it feels too late in the year to switch now to Algebra 1 H because of all the material she would have missed. Algebra is too important to rush. I appreciate the suggestion about Geometry Honors though I agree with the reservations about doing that course over the summer. Maybe enrichment through Khan Academy or AOPS for pre-algebra and algebra will keep DC engaged? Thanks again for your thoughts
