A different article says he had a firearm registered to his name.
“A firearm registered in his name” means he was the lawful owner of one. He had been ordered to surrender all firearms. That order was later withdrawn. If he had already complied he’d have had to go through the same process to get it back as when originally purchased from a dealer.
In any event, lawful ownership of a firearm does not (at least in Maryland) authorize a person to carry it, other than unloaded and cased to the range, repair shop, place of surrender. To lawfully carry a handgun in Maryland a person must have a wear and carry permit, issued (completely separately from the license required to buy a handgun) only after completion of a state-mandated training course, a range qualification, fingerprinting, photographs, and a comprehensive background check, not to mention a significant processing delay. A domestic violence history could have resulted in denial of a permit.
So I’m not sure what the point is. Even if he had a carry permit he certainly had no right to misuse a firearm to commit murder. And the Mercedes Benz he is linked to certainly is as deadly as a firearm if misused.

I'm a former domestic violence advocate and later prosecutor. He looks VERY much like the typical wife abuser/domestic violence killer to me. The notion that such people look like ??? or behave like ??? is so antiquated. Most violently abusive men look like your doctor or dentist or pharmacist or whatever and not so much like the ??? of your biased imaginings.

I'm coming at this from the opposite angle (I used to do criminal defense, including for domestic abusers) and I agree. There's no one thing that "domestic abusers" look like.
True. But there is one very noticeable physical characteristic that 98% of abusers share.
23% of women report commiting intimate partner violence. This is similar to the numbers for men, but even if every man in the country was an abuser, they wouldn't be 98%.

Congress passed legislation to do this for federal judges since a man Judge Esther Salas ruled against came to her house and murdered her son. Not sure if Maryland or any other states have done anything similar.
