Not sure why you mentioned that they bought matching Teslas. That is irrelevant for this conversation. What they do with their money is none of your business.

The only thing you can be annoyed by is that they call it "their stroller".

So. That isn't the norm and it is stupid as heck. How dare op assume they have to buy her the Mercedes of the stroller world. Entitled much op? Yes, $100 is low but don't ever mention it. That would be so tacky.

My ils did something similar. I had twins and they insisted they wanted to buy cribs. Grandma had died and left money to pay for them. My ils are well off. They went ballistic when they saw how expensive cribs were and thqt they had to buy mattresses too. They took their anger out on me and I had been on bed rest for an extended time. We didn't have any input and didn't even try. They bought the cheapest cribs and mattresses they could find and were angry about it every single day. We never asked them to do this and grandma paid for most of it. They spent a fortune on everything else in their lives and spent approx $350 for two barely functional cribs that were recalled within a year. We never said a word.


You should have said “No thank you.”

OP, my mother does similar things and it irks me because I know she knows the cost of items, because she obsessively looks them up. In my case, its because my mother is a full blown narc and she want to be viewed as generous and magnanimous, but, she wants to spend as little on others so that she can spend the most on herself while getting credit for being generous. For example, she offered to pay for DC to go to sleepaway camp. She asked what the cost was. Mentioned a number of times she would be paying for it. Sent us a Zelle for $200 and said hope DC enjoys camp. Camp cost $1875/wk.
She spent the entire summer telling everyone she knew that she paid her her grandchild to attend sleepaway camp.

I doubt your inlaws are this level of crazy, so I would ignore it.

OMG! My inlaws pulled a dusty, 30+ year old high chair out of their attic and presented us with that as if we were supposed to be thrilled. I just said it looked a little rickety and went out and got a plastic Ikea one. The most insulting part was that they didn't even wipe the dust off.


Hahaha, mine just borrow that plastic IKEA one from their church when we visit. They're SO cheap.

Even a basic graco stroller from Target is $300

Grow up and stop acting so entitled. This is your baby and it is your responsibility. You are the parents now, you need to pay for things for your child. That's how adulting works.

So are you saying they lavished the other grandkids? Or were clueless on prices with them? Or are you clearly bottom of the barrel/far from the favourite. Either way, that sucks.

If I heard the 'our stroller' comment, I'd have to say 'yes- thanks, your contribution basically acted as a 15% off coupon so that was great!' and look/act like you mean it.

You aren't owed anything and anyone who buys a tesla is a fool, so there is that.

She said that they seem to THINK the $100 would cover the whole stroller. It's just an observation about how older people don't keep up with price increases.
My parents give us $100 every Christmas because that's what their parents gave them starting from their wedding in 1977. Obviously that's a lot less money now than it used to be but they still expect a big to-do especially from my husband.
