Multiple studies I’ve seen say that ~ 80% of American women wear their engagement rings on a near daily basis and pretty much every married woman I can think of in my work/social/family circles regularly do.

I didn’t see the thread you referenced but guessing selection bias may have come into play.

Stop for a second and think about who, if anyone, would pay for a “study” on such a thing.

I’ve been married 15 years. Stopped wearing my engagement ring daily 7 or 8 years ago (and genuinely don’t pay attention to anyone else’s hand). I do wear my ring for special/dressy occasions, so if the ring felt on the smaller side I would consider upgrading.

That would be a flawed assumption. I am in my 50s. I know many people my age who no longer wear their engagement rings because (1) the ring no longer fits, (2) the style no longer suits them, (3) the stone is large enough that it bothers them for day to day wear, (4) they have gotten out of the habit, (5) plenty of other reasons. In fact, I’ve never heard your assumed reason as an actual one.

I assume for daily wearers that it’s the only nice piece of jewelry they have.

I would not upgrade my ring. Maybe just get another ring, but I would never give away the ring he picked for me…

For our 10th my husband “renovated” my grandmothers wedding ring. It’s not flashy at all (etoile style from the 1930s, substantial gold band with emerald and Diamond “stars”) and I am OBSESSED. So meaningful that my plans for a three carat stunner was forgotten.

I have a 2.8 that is not lab — I love it and it’s everyday wear for me. I am not self conscious about the size nor am I trying to be flashy about it, it’s just what DH got me and I don’t wear much else in jewelry otherwise. Most days I do not wear my wedding band though, just the engagement ring. I do have to say we got engaged when we still lived in NYC, so the size was much more average there than in the DC area, but no ones ever said anything negative about it on a day to day basis. If you don’t care about lab/natural, I think lab is a perfectly fine route to go, but just make sure you get a really good cut / clarity.
