There's nothing novel about it. They literally tell you these side effects when you get the shot.

Some ibuprofen could help knock down the pain and inflammation

Update is that she had a rough night and could not put weight on the leg this am. Stayed home from school. Got her in a hot bath and she started moving it around well. So she stayed in for a long time. She was able to put weight on it after the bath. I’m keeping her moving and using a heating pad when she’s not. It seems to be dissipating but slowly. Obv not going to ped seeing that the bath was so helpful and seeing improvement. Thx to all for helpful advice!

One of her legs is completely fine. So there was no harm and no foul here and I’m glad this one one tough afternoon instead of two.

I don't know if the same thing can happen with covid and flu shots, but my son experience a side effect from the MMR vaccine where he had transient synovitis in his hip. It's inflammation in the hip joint that can be caused by a virus, bacteria, injury, or other unknown reasons. Diagnosed by MRIs or ultrasound (he had an ultrasound). It's usually very hard to put weight on the leg at all when it happens. Ultimately harmless and resolves on its own, something to consider if DD is truly in pain and it doesn't go away!
