Wootton is one of the least diverse schools in this county. The county is like 30something % Hispanic kids, 15% Asian kids, and I think like 30% FARMs.
Neighboring RMHS is an actually diverse HS.
I’m zoned for Wootton and this is true. Richard Montgomery is truly diverse - you don’t get clumps of Asian kids all over the place- they are well integrated and when you see various friend groups around school and after school, they are truly diverse. When our kid is done with 8th, we are moving to Richard Montgomery to avoid the imbalanced demographics at Wootton.
There is no one zoned for Wootton that would purposely send their kids to RM, especially after so many incidences the past 2 years and how over crowded it is. Wootton has better AP offerings, better teachers, more involved parents, and a safer environment. This is 100% a troll.
RM is a much nicer school. You make a lot of assumptions about others. I'd pick RM over Wootton every time. The IB is much stronger than anything Wootton has to offer. RM also has way more NMSF and overall better college outcomes. In fact, there's really no comparison.
Oh sweetie. Go look at the college results. Wootton doesn’t even have an IB program and outperforms RM in testing, AP courses offered, AP passing %, college admissions, and graduation rates.
Ritchie Park ES was pulled from Wootton and then they added the IB program - all to pull RM out of the basement and make their numbers look presentable. But they now have the least favorable IB program and it and the entire school has been slipping in numbers for the last 7 years.
But yes your building is newer. Still more overcrowded and problematic. Good luck!
LMFAO Are you kidding me? RM has some of the best stats among IB schools in MCPS.
Kennedy's IB program is easily the worst performing in the county. Look at the data again cause your eyesight is off.
+1 RMIB has the best IB diploma outcome in MCPS, and is way above the average IB diploma rate globally.
Yes, part of what makes RM great is the IB diploma program which RM cluster kids can join in 11th grade. Wootton doesn't have that program. But, saying "RM is only great because of IB" is like saying "Wootton is only great because of all the Asian kids". What makes a school great? IMO, part of it is the programming, and RM has some great programming.
Obviously, Wootton's test scores are reflective of the student body. They have a small FARMs rate and high Asian American population. That combination usually equates to high test scores. But, what dose that mean for your individual kid? Nothing. Your kid isn't going to get high test scores by osmosis.
OP, if you are still reading.. a lot of parents in the Wootton cluster look down on children who don't have high test scores.
And I say this as a parent whose kid had a 1590 SAT score and 4.0 gpa, and 4.95 wgpa.
NAILED IT!
That’s true your kid may not learn by osmosis, but when his classmates care and out an effort in school, that will rub off on them and will have a strong peer cohort to interact and study with.
And that's true with the high-achieving cohort present at all MCPS schools.
Looking at the sheer number of NMSF at RM it's a safe bet that
RM's high-achieving cohort > Wootton's high-achieving cohort
so based on their reasoning a kid would do better at RM

Families pay a lot of money to live in this district because the school speaks for itself. Your child will find friends quickly.
Wootton, along with RM, QO and Gaithersburg HS will all look different after Crown HS is built.
Your child may or may not find friends quickly. DC has friends in the Wootton cluster, and they said it's a very cliquey school. If your kid is not a high achiever, then they will be relegated to the non high achieving friend groups.
And their building is falling apart.

The thing is Asians want more security being with Asians. It’s very hard for Asians growing up being the minority everywhere. They’re discriminated, ignored and marginalized everywhere. Many of them growing up with psychological trauma. It’s natural that they want to be in a school with more Asians. When they have the chance to stay together and form a strong group, it’s ridiculous to tell them that their school is not diverse and not reflecting the county population. The school is much more diverse than most US schools. Forcing them to move to schools with 15% or less Asians is cruel.
wtf? I have lived in the US since 1970 (yea, I'm old), when there weren't very many Asians. I don't have psychological trauma from that. Good grief.
I can understand their parents wanting to live in an area with a lot of other Asian, but kids aren't traumatized by going to a school that is < 10% Asian.
I hope you are a troll.

You can only speak for yourself, not other Asians who have psychological trauma. I hope you are a troll.
