I'll respond. I completely disagree that "most" people "want" racial diversity. I think most young people would think that's fine if it exists and fine if it doesn't, so long as that happens organically due to self selection and not as a result of Klan infiltration. When I go to a NHL hockey game I don't sit around thinking, "this would be great if only there were more black fans!" Same with a alt country live music show or a Vermeer exhibit. Or Vermont.

Not sure why OP is getting attacked. These observations are important.
But PP is right that these prospective events annd tours are not representative of all families. I’m white but grew up low income. We didn’t tour a single school and my parents never came to an event or even graduation because it was an expensive trip and we would all rather use that money differently. My first day in college was my first day on the West Coast.

DS and I think that's great! He chose a different school but we both loved the feel when we visited WF. So sick of the antagonism and thought/language police here in DC, where DS was born and raised.

You should ask Wake. they have a new EA admissions window this year for only first-gen families, aimed at getting less white people on campus. I'm not sure how many white people is too many but they are quite open that their current percentage is too high.
"first gen" =/= POC
How I know: my family is jam packed with white Gen Z kids who _would_ have been the 'first generation' to attend college ... except they blew that off and are instead hair stylists, mechanics, sheet metal fabricators, an electrician apprentice, a Chik-fil-A manager, a CNA and probably some others I'm forgetting. Oh, an IT guy and a bartender. All of them white, all the kids of blue collar parents.

What is wrong with with white people? I would also point out that teenagers of every race and HHI wear really expensive sneakers. It is a thing and not just for rich white kids.

The US is about 75% white, so not surprising there are a lot of rich white people at an expensive, private university’s information session. OP sounds horrible.

I think it’s funny how the OP was appalled at expensive sneakers. Go to any top 50 even top 100 school and you will see the same. A lot of families are applying to the same group of schools.
Oh and a lot of people spend money on shoes. They no longer need dress shoes in business casual and post Covid world so the sneaker and designer sneaker market has boomed.

They also just opened a new early action window only for first gen and students of color.
Their % white has been declining by about a point each year if you look at the CDS.
The shift to more diversity may not be as fast as you would like but those are all facts.

I’m left leaning, grew up near Wake and attended. Yes, it could get whiter and preppier. Because 25 years ago it was. It’s not a model of diversity, and kids trend UMC. But a lot of private colleges have that problem. They are pricing themselves out of all but a narrow band of people.
My kids didn’t apply because they wouldn’t have been happy coming from the DMV. But, it’s headed in the right direction.
What does strike me about Wake is that is is very pre-professional. It’s engineering is meh, and it’s very pre- (law, med, MBA, etc). For better or worse, that’s it’s profile.
