We started baking more treats. We no longer buy name-brand cookies, snack cakes, or chips. I'm sorry, but 2/$9 is NOT a sale. I went to a football party last night and it pained me to pay $9 for 2 bags of Tostitos! I could have gotten 8 bags of Aldi brand tortilla chips for $9.

It's not been terrible, tbh. We eat a home more and are heating healthier, overall. We have more meatless meals and the kids are really enjoying expanding their food interests.

My uncle owns a local restaurant. He was telling us how each time he places an order, the food prices are higher and higher. He's eliminated some dishes from his menu because there's no profit margin without raising the price of the dish. He tried that and so few people ordered it that they had a lot of waste. Also, the owner of the shopping complex where his restaurant is located gave notice to him that the rent will raise $3k over the next 2 years.

Yes to chips. But a very difficult thing to replace. Easy to cut back and we have been doing that in general, but eliminate? What's a good substitute?

How the f is broccoli a replacement for soda? I'm not a soda fan, but don't be a fool.

Sorry, we don't drink Coke, please enjoy this cup of broccoli instead.

Just ignore the stupid suggestions on here. Plenty of people offering good advice.

Your options are to put up with it, find a cheaper market, which means going downscale to Walmarts or Aldi, or find a higher paying job.

Also, you could try eating less. Or eating less expensive items. Soak your own beans instead of canned, for example. Bake your own bread. Skip the alcohol aisle. Buy the fruit that's in season.

I don't always have time and it actually doesn't come out good when I try to do those things. I agree with skipping alcohol or expensive drinks.

Instant Pot for beans will save you time and money.

It's not expensive anymore if you just get the standard brand. I got some for $1.89.

I have seen them fairly cheap too, but they are pretty terrible eggs. Once you have eggs with orange yolks and thick whites, it’s hard to go back. I pay $12 for an 18 pack, Vital Farms. They’re the best commercially available eggs I’ve had, by far, including Farmers Market eggs.

Agree Vital eggs are worth it.

I'm not talking for things like meat or organic pasture raised eggs, but for frozen vegetables, canned goods, and other typically less expensive things. Everything just keeps going up and seems out of control, and not stabilizing. When is grocery inflation going to slow down??

When Joe Biden leaves office.

The cage free ones are $5/doz and I've seen duck eggs for $12/doz

If you raise your own, they'd be equivalent to the fancier pasture raised eggs

Same. I make my own baked goods and crackers but besides lentils I just can't with beans. And canned are not that expensive if you look for deals. Not a hill I'm tackling. Yet.

Do you think you’re being so cute with these questions but really, you come off as dumb. You were I might not drink soda, but millions of people all over the world do.
