Grateful for those generous families who let me feel included! Also shoutout to the PTA moms who taught me how to roller skate at school events. There were some dud snobbish parents but I do appreciate all of ones who coached our teams and help run our clubs when my parents were just trying to figure out how to survive in America.
Also a child of immigrant parents. Other parents took me under their wing too, but they were my friends’ parents. One taught me how to use silverware. One spoke to teachers on my behalf when my non-English speaking parents couldn’t. One even threw me a sweet-sixteen party. I don’t see general class parents who didn’t help as duds or snobbish. They’re just people going about their lives.
