The House GOP doesn't usually act to its advantage, and they're rarely capable of following any strategy at all.

So I think the most logical resolution is that McCarthy is re-elected in exchange for a pledge not to hold a vote on another CR unless it contains drastic spending cuts and immigration law changes, which will be non-starters to the Dems, forcing a shutdown.

If the GOP figures out the speaker situation soon maybe they’ll even have time to pass a spending bill of their own…

Agree on the first part, not so sure about the second part. Didn't he already make promises to the HFC that they believe he has broken and, if so, why would they trust him again. I think it's more likely McCarthy or the next speaker makes some concession to a few moderate dems to get over the finish line.

200 Democrats voted for Jeffries. Moderate Republicans should vote for a functional USA.

Republicans are unfit to govern, they can't even run the lower chamber and their last president tried to overthrow the government. Shame!

Since McCarthy announced he won’t run for Speaker again, these next few weeks should be interesting. Sigh.

Yup, posted too soon! Can’t blame McCarthy for calling it quits.

Also it’s hard to see Ukraine getting more funding now.

I am this PP returning. I was sure we wouldn't have one in November. Now I am less sure.

Yes, if this disarray continues there will be no time.

With McCarthy out this seems more likely, right?
