The data was 100k-200k..most moved to PG county because it was the only place they could afford a home.

It’s not some anti DC conspiracy..young people want to own a home and those in the 100-200k can’t afford a home in DC proper so they are looking further out. Seems pretty normal to me.

The actual high income earners aren’t leaving Wesley Heights for Bethesda

got damn since when is 200k not high income in your vapid mind?

Flooding once safe neighborhoods with the homelessness and mentally ill has an equal and opposite impact on housing prices.

DC home prices are artificially inflated anyways so this is not a surprise. Its just the market readjusting itself to normalize. During the pandemic, housing prices grew to quickly based on panic.

I don't think so. If that were true, a downward market adjustment would apply to surrounding areas. Redfin shows Virginia home prices are up 9.5%. Home prices in Fairfax, VA alone are up 13.5% year-over-year.

DC ranks number 3 out of the top 10 places people are moving from: https://www.redfin.com/state/Virginia/housing-market.

And why would people stay? Take a walk (but leave your Canada Goose at home) and see for yourself. Crime us up and the standard of living is tanking across the board. I know someone will ultimately say "but this is city living," and it wouldn't be the first time they lied to themselves to avoid dealing with reality.

The ones who live in DC either can't afford to move or can and mistakenly believe their prestige depends on their ability to brag about living in the hellscape that is the nation's capital. (If you can't name 10+ people who match this profile in 30 seconds or less, you don't live in the DMV.)

And while I'm fired up, for all of the posters ripping on flyover states, everyone thinks you're from one.

We left because of school closures and lunatic covidiocy. We are enjoying our lower taxes and lack of virtue signaling yard signs. Bye!

We left for similar reasons. More specifically because the city didn’t protect property or prioritize education during the pandemic. A city that doesn’t prioritize education and safety doesn’t have a good future. The writing was on the wall that there are major issues with the city government and its policies. We no longer felt it was a good financial decision to own millions in DC real estate.

What? DC home prices did NOT increase as much as in the burbs and other locations like Florida and Texas. DC home prices performed the worst out of any large city in the US.

You aren't paying attention. In my neighborhood alone, prices have easily doubled in the last three years.

No they haven’t. Homes in Miami? Yes. DC. Nope.

Nope. DC has a tax crisis and will be hundreds of millions in the red for the budget soon because property values are tanking.

The tax crisis is more due to vacant commercial real estate, fewer commercial real estate transactions (with related taxes) and less commerce downtown (and related sales tax) during the day

200K is DC is not high income. That’s barely middle class. High earners in my DC neighborhood start at at least 500K ( on the low end) and up to millions. And none of my neighbors are moving out, and if they did, they’d be selling to other high earners.

People are leaving and they are not coming back. DC is losing money and can't or won't control the crime issues that are increasing in all areas of the city. DC is a disaster.

You think housing prices in DC (and the DC area) are not high enough?
