The rigor and intensity of both practices and games will have made the top girls that much better over the years. My U15 DD is struggling with this now, where she wants to start competing at a higher level but I can see the huge gaps caused by less intensity over the last few years. Not sure there is a way to catch up. So I am not surprised that only the national level teams would nominate players.
It’s not rigor or intensity of practice or the games. It is the amount of time they spend on working out to get bigger and stronger. This is done for college but is not development in soccer terms. This is reflected on the field by the slow speed of play, reliance on physical play and injuries. It is a very ugly game. Unfortunately the vast majority of girl players do not watch high level soccer and think this is how you play.
