That's a really big ask of volunteers from a church where OP and her mom don't even attend-late at night (10 pm+) on weeknights and all day on weekends!
The volunteer groups in churches, etc are to help their own members when hard times hit and to help the poor and other charities. It is not to help a middle class non-church member looking for a great deal on a potentially challenging job.
