Asia is huge. And no, large cities in my Asian country are not masking. Heck, it was hard to get my South Asian relatives to mask even during 2020/2021. They certainly aren’t masking on a regular basis.
When I traveled in the late 90s to Tokyo and Soeul I saw a number of people on the streets wearing masks. Didn't know if it was for illness prevention, smog or something else. As an American, just thought it was unusual to see.

+100 My DS was sick almost all of freshman year with something. He's currently a sophomore and I'm sure the covid isolation during high school didn't help his immune system!

Sent DS with a virtual pharmacy. Told him to hide because by October everyone on the floor with be "borrowing" medicine.
I told my son to give his OTC meds to people on his floor who needed it so he could make friends. We have very different values.
+1 Thankfully my son's 1st year roommate was helpful too! Once I knew he was sick that fall, ran out to scoop up a set of meds and kleenex to replenish/restock the supplies.

Rightfully so. I certainly have told my kids just not to test. What is the point?
The UMD policy is simply bad public health policy with no basis in science/statistics. It’s ridiculous.
