Admittedly, we rarely travel with other families who aren’t related to us, but we always load up on food (a mix of healthy and junk) and the goal is for everyone to help themselves.
I can’t imagine baking muffins and only giving them to my kids while others watch.
Let me clarify. You are saying that when your family lets say of 3 travels, you make breakfast and lunch for 10 people very day to share everything?
This sounds like bs.

+2. Was it a house or a cabin? The third family was driving up for the day and yet their kid was lying down on a bed at 8:30pm? What time were they driving home?

And, I'm questionning all of this post but especially where you say the mom puts her DD on your bed and lets her watch TV (which to me sounds like a toddler/little kid) but later say the kids are 11 and 14.
+1. This is either a totally made up or badly embellished story. This site basically sucks now because of all the made up crap on it.

“BYO snacks” is not a thing, and if you really did tell that to guests, never host again. Because you are a horrible host.
No, that’s not true. I actually told them to bring snacks to carry their kids until dinner. They ignored it.
Each family brings our own food for the three days we at the cabin. We do potlucks for dinner, but breakfast and lunch each family makes separately.
And have zero intention to feed another family of four.

If you don't intend to feed your guests, you shouldn't invite them to spend the afternoon at the rental. You can suggest they join you for the day on the beach, and specifically tell them everyone brings their own refreshments, beach chairs, beach umbrellas, etc. You invite them to go back to your rental afterwards for dinner. .
Anonymous wrote:You’re like my dc when he was 4 year old. She’d have a playdate and then expect the guest to ask permission to touch every single toy. We were working hard to explain that when you invite someone over, you expect that they’d reasonably use some toys and that’s ok, they don’t need to ask permission for every single item. Hopefully by time she is grown up and has her own family, she won’t be complaining about guest kids that she invites over for a day to “ask permission to use floaters”
To me this looks more like a case of birds of a feather. The family didn’t think this outing through, but so are you, you didn’t plan to host them. It looks like you “invited” them, but more to join as sharing rather than invited gueses. Did you charge them for the day also?
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:You invited them to come one day during the day but only for dinner? That makes no sense.
The only rude thing is helping themselves to your bed.
They showed up after lunch.
I made it clear we were sharing only dinner. I wasn’t going to cook them breakfast and lunch.
Anonymous wrote:What’s really missing here is the following:
1. Full accounting of the snacks, what was eaten, and when
2. More about the dog
3. Which child, 11 or 14, was put into the bedroom to chill? How did this happen?
