There have always been homicide, in fact the ER at shady grove hospital is named after a guy killed at a bar fight at Jj Muldouns. Yes the population has increased so per capita murders probably aren’t any higher. But you see people panhandling everywhere even at grocery stores. Intersections, etc

Agree about increase in panhandling. In our neighborhood, we have Central Americans panhandling at the intersections. Seriously? They illegally cross the US border just to beg for money. If we keep getting all their people, then we should get their land too. Replace their sorry government.

Lol. Lived in DC since I was born in the mid 80s. It's SO MUCH BETTER currently than pre-2000, even pre-2004 really. Yes, crime is high this year, but you clearly have no idea what DC was like in the 80 and 90s if you think it's currently state represents "decline."

"Crime is worse now because I simply ignored it in the past."

Of all the braindead takes in this thread, this may be the dumbest.

No, it’s is in no way shape or form worse now.

Girls were legally assaulted by prep school boys at parties or sleepovers, where do you think the wisdom of not letting girls sleep over if a boy lives in the house came from?

Shootings/home invasions/car jacking in and around Twinbrook and Lincoln park happened on the regular,

Wheaton… hello? Did you just never go there?

Richard Montgomery had a smoking section for students and there were 20 year olds still going to school.

My brothers 1st day at broom MS, 2 kids fought at lunch and teacher watched until it was over and just walked their bloodied bodies to the nurse.

You have a very bad memory or you were very sheltered.

Or you're an external agitator trying to spin up drama before an election.

Uh, no, there are more than enough actual real people in the area with opinions like this, and there's absolutely no reason to think Russian trolls or whatever other "external agitator" you have in mind have even heard of, let alone posted on, this site.

You really think DC residents are ignorant enough to complain about “defund the police”?

Many places are better, but I have noticed a definite downturn in Chinatown and Columbia Heights in the last 10 years. I lived in Logan Circle before it was "cool" so even though it's gotten more sketchy than a few years ago, it's still way better.

In addition, there was the expectation of constant improvement in the 2000's - the question was "what's the next neighborhood to improve?". It's sad to see so many parts of the city slipping backwards, even if statistically they are still safer than the nadir of the early 1990's.

Really?

I’d go with the idiot who encourage people to hang mike pence and said the virus was a hoax.

Why not both? Extremism is the enemy of stability.

What is extreme about "defund the police"? Do you even know what that means?

How much funding was taken from the police?

Police budgets are public information, cite your sources. If "defund the police" is to blame, surely you can back up your statement with proof.

There is no election anytime soon.

Speaking of moron...you don't understand what that meant.
