Blair crew parent here- we are just as in the dark as anyone else. Kids are speculating. Kids are quitting- just ran into a relative new coming to crew with their dad and the dad said no way is his kid continuing until this is resolved. It’s a bummer for the club but I am glad nothing is getting swept under the rug.

I second the love for Renault Johnson.

Do you have any experience with this club or any knowledge of the investigation other than what posters acknowledge is rampant speculation on this board?

I’m sorry your kids are upset. Why are they on DCUM? My own 9th grader wouldn’t even consider looking here or anywhere. but after a message like that obviously there is speculation. It’s normal. I’m sure your kids are speculating too and the anxiety related to related to not knowing, not the fact that others are speculating too.


Respectfully, as someone who saw the B-CC Crew situation up close ... please keep your opinion to yourself, because the parent made a very astute point. Renay Johnson has been at Blair for almost a decade and a half. She could've had her pick of any central office leadership role anywhere, and she's still there, especially for a length of time that's almost unheard of in education or any industry today. I trust her judgment.


I never expressed an opinion nor speculated about what happened or what might have happened. Your critique is misplaced.

I'm not the PP, but avoiding things that cause you pain is actually a really important life lesson for these kids. For all kids. There are going to be things out in the world that people find to distressing. For whatever reason. We can put trigger warnings on them and let them know this is coming, and that allows them to decide whether or not they wish to consume that content. In this case, it's clear that the content is going to be distressing because the site is all about speculation and the memo from the principal is vague.

Please try to help your kids build some resilience by identifying media that is upsetting, and cutting it out rather than asking other people to stop making it.


Well said. There was also no victim blaming there. No one even knows who if anyone is a victim in this incident. What is stressful for these kids is the uncertainty about what is going on. Developing skills to handle uncertainty is something all teens go through. Hopefully there are some level headed adults involved in this.

I assume it’s a parent run board and they must know what is happening- unless the allegation went directly to the school and the school referred directly to law enforcement.

There is nothing to say that the Blair Crew Club can’t continue to train and race just that they can’t use school property. Presuming that these are serious allegations, this matter has also been referred to SafeSport who is conducting their own investigation or perhaps SafeSport has already provided the results of their investigation. It depends on to whom this matter was first reported.

Note that there have been a LOT of issues with MCPS lately, so they are pretty jittery. The Board did not know any details prior to the letter going out. Everyone is participating with the investigation and the season is proceeding. The Board is comprised of volunteer parents who all believe that the student-athletes will be safe given what we know.

Not if the parent board is potentially related to the issue. Not saying it is, but if they don’t yet know the scope of whatever it is they are investigating it makes sense to cut all ties.
