My Hispanic son attends one of those schools now. He feels very comfortable there. All of these schools have programs for first generation/minority students. The OP’s son should visit these schools. Mine went for a shadow day at his top choices.

UVA is the top tennis program in the country, most players are foreign and have played pro tournaments.

Fordham has an amazing business school, more known for that then STEM, if he has interest in business he would probably then go and be successful in NYC.

Yes! St. Joe's, Scranton, Loyola. All offer good merit aid.


I attended one of these schools. Loved my time there. OP’s son would be a fish out of water socially. There is zero diversity in any of these schools. The student bodies skews heavily upper middle class and overwhelming white. I would not recommend them at all for OP’s son.

There's no city in Mexico tbat spends as much as Baltimore in scbools yet gets so dismal academic results and crazy murder rates.

Just seeing this now. Yes, this will help with admissions.


That and the Hispanic recognition award will be more than enough to “tip” the admissions committee about his background. I expect he will be admitted to a number of these schools.

Yes to writing about his story. Actually is a very strong essay. Considering Public Health or Biology for major.
Fordham provides full tuition to awardees of NHRP which is why it’s on his list.

Because I think Fordham will love this kid. You most certainly don't have to be Catholic to go there, but if he had any church involvement, that could flesh out his application and make him an extra appealing applicant.
