I’m the one on the first page who suggested Greta’s wavy routine and I’m still going to suggest that because a lot of Pp’s shared tips and products that are for curly hair which is usually more porous and dense than wavy hair. My hair curls like curly hair but has a fine texture like wavy hair and a bunch of these suggestions (leave in conditioners, heavy creams) weigh my hair down. Anything with coconut is an absolute no for my hair.

Try the wavy routine. It’s a simple process she can start with and the products won’t weigh down her hair. Once she does it for awhile you can get a better idea of how her hair responds and whether it’s truly curly or wavy or curly but needs the wavy products and styling to look good

I have wavy hair that is always a bit frizzy, no matter what I use (and even after I got a Brazilian blow out!)

I have tried ALL the products and wavy hair techniques and cuts (including a year dedicated to no-poo.)

they do make a difference! But at the end of the day, my hair is just always going to be a bit frizzy and that’s okay! I would talk to her about reducing rather eliminating frizz maybe.

Mom, it’s fine to buy new conditioner. But it’s not going to cut it. She has curly hair. It’s different from yours. She needs to go to a curly hair salon (or someone good at a regular salon) and get some products and instruction. Or she needs to blow dry it.

OP back again—the above isn’t me (I wish we lived near a Trader Joe’s but sadly we do not). I appreciate all the advice on this thread and am definitely going to experiment and explore some options. And take my kid to my stylist who I’m hoping can give advice as well. Thank you for all these great suggestions!

There's tons of Tik Tok videos on how to work with curly or wavy hair. If she wants to wear it natural.

If she wants to keep it straight, there's only so much she can do in the humidity, despite what a product may promise. The product that's worked best for me is a hair oil applied before blow drying.

Do you have any friends with nice curly hair? She needs someone to teach her how to handle it. Reaching out to someone with nice (natural) curls could be really useful for her! Like a curly mentor.
