My aunt had to go to the hospital due to drinking too much water. She had mental health issues and would drink water obsessively. She'd drink way more than 4 water bottles per 1/2 hour.

What? It absolutely is. If you present to the ER with symptoms of dehydration they will pop an IV in you as one of their first treatments.

IVs contain saline, not pure water.

Did she have an eating disorder? Because that’s not much water.

I remember an older story about a young woman who died after a radio contest that was to drink as much water as you can. (The contest prize was an X-Box or something.) That’s when I first learned water toxicity was a thing.

There must be. When I run on my treadmill, I drink one 16.9 ounce bottle every 15 minutes. That's how much I need just to stay ahead with hydration. It doesn't make sense that 4 would kill you.

There must be. When I run on my treadmill, I drink one 16.9 ounce bottle every 15 minutes. That's how much I need just to stay ahead with hydration. It doesn't make sense that 4 would kill you.

To prevent this,
Drink water slowly, so that your body can adapt and regulate sodium passing in and out of cells so sodium levels stay within normal.
Drink electrolytes with the water eg Gatorade.

The kidneys (healthy ones) can process around 1L an hour of fluid. She drank too much water in a short period of time.

Sounds like getting dehydrated was the initial cause.

In a weird twist, one of these DJs (went by Lukas on the show) was Adam Cox. Adam Cox’s younger sister is Lori Cox, also known as Lori Vallow Daybell.

She’s the one who along with their OTHER brother Alex Cox and her husband murdered two of Lori’s kids. (Adam was not involved.)
