I love these. In our household you can hear:
Mother of Pearl!
Son of a biscuit eater!
I’ll see you next Tuesday!
Calling someone a nincompoop (from my kids!)
and somehow “Good brain sir” (always “sir” never lasy or ma’am)

I say lots of old phrases. I mix up a lot of them too, but not just old ones. I jumble the heck out of them, making hybrid idioms or creating new ones. I also say things like “in a timely fashion,” and sub in random words for curse words like son of a biscuit. Don’t get me wrong, I love to curse too. These are in addition to cursing, not completely replacing foul language. It’s fun to be expressive with colorful language.

I have no idea where he heard this, but I was driving with my then 6 year old in the car a few years ago and I said, “oh there’s a police car there I better slow down” and he was like “THE FUZZ!” Like he was some 1920s gangster running illegal whiskey during prohibition. I lost my sh** I was laughing so hard.

Also, I'm sure this is pretty regional... my Norwegian grandma said "uff da" and my Minnesota gen x cousins all adopted it as just "uff"


I also picked up oofta from my Norwegian grandparents.
