When I make breakfast for my kids it's really brunch and is ready around noon. At that point, they've been up for a while, and they are hungry. I see no reason to force someone to wake up and eat before they are ready.
This is how we do it, too. One of us frequently makes a nice brunch on the weekend for all of us (parents and teens) but can't remember the last time we ate it at 9 a.m. (Maybe Christmas or another holiday when we all had other reasons to be up?) Otherwise it's more like 11:30 or noon. The early-rising breakfast-eaters eat cereal when they get up, and everyone is ready for a nicer meal together later.
