Subject: If you want to have your best odds of being accepted at one of these three schools: Colgate, Lehigh, BC
Wow, 1/18 accepted at Colgate in last2 yrs from your school? You would think there would be a reason behind those stats. Did School previously have a pattern of accepted kids turning down Colgate’s offers or something? Whatever the reason, you might try to get past it by visiting & emphatically declaring your interest is sincere. This might be difficult to sell, as Colgate probably gets plenty of slick rich applicants who have been taught how to play the game.

I think Lehigh is likely. I think BC might be unlikely based on the kids from our school who get in (a significantly more academically “elite” group than the Lehigh kids). Lehigh is a great school so if he’s happy with that, if encourage going for it, at least ED2. Finance/Econ is a common major for white boys at these schools in particular so that doesn’t help.
LOL. BC kids are not more academically elite than Lehigh kids. They tend to be whiter and more Catholic but I know several kids in the last 2 years who have gotten into BC but not Lehigh. That said, I’d look at the Scattergram for your school and see how well each place at these schools.
I’m basing it on scatter grams at my kids’ school (not Catholic). For our school
BC’s admit rate is something like 15% and Lehigh’s is 39%. That’s not that close.
You have no idea who makes up those percentages.

For Finance, BC is best and a fantastic program. It's not easy to get into the Carol School of Management, though, so I would ED1 to BC if he wants finance and likes BC the best.

Not True. Lehigh's acceptance rate for the 2027 class was 28%. Boston College's acceptance rate for the 2027 class was 15%. Big difference. Lehigh is significantly easier to get into.

NP. No different from the existence of gen ed requirements at any university. BC is not an LAC just because it has gen ed requirements.

Aim higher. Emory/WashU/Cornell level for ED1. Notre Dame and Georgetown EA. BC ED2, and Lehigh/Colgate RD.
I disagree - these are very hard admits for UMC white males even for ED1 (most very high stats kids in this category from our school were either rejected or WL ED1 and then same again for the WL EDs in RD)
So...if your DC wants BC, they should apply ED1 there and ED2 to Lehigh
I'd pass on Colgate, or at least wait for RD...which might be the same as passing

ED1 to BC - be sure to tap into "community" aspect of BC (both on campus and greater community of Boston/World) and the "educational curiosity" that Jesuits embrace/foster
ED2 to Lehigh
Finance at BC and the Carroll School of Management are very strong - and the BC alumni network ROCKS - not just for a first job but throughout your career.
