5 years is nothing. I once had a co-worker who was close to 60, while I was about 30 at the time, talk about how “our parents back in the day…” are a certain way and different from “our generation today where we…”. I didn’t get offended though, just thought it’s funny he didn’t realize he is more like my parents’ age.

The older you get, the age difference decreases.

Huge difference between a 20 and 25 yo, but no difference between 45 and 50.

We have a somewhat similar situation in our office, but I am on the losing end.

We work in an office of people ranging in age from 28 to 53.

Three of us are ages 51-53. I am the 53-year-old.

Sometimes, I'll refer to us as being similar in age, and the other two seem kind of offended. (I think that I do look older than they do, but still, we are similar in age.)

I work with A LOT of very young people -- (I am 46) and I they are always saying things that lump me in with their age group. I don't think it's because I'm so youthful (LOL), I just think once you start working with other adults your frame of reference for age gets broken.

I’m 4 years older than my DH. I just casually mentioned on a call this week that we were celebrating his 45th birthday (in hopes the assumption is that I’m closer to 45.) I admit I am insecure. I work with a lot of young IT folks in their early 20s. I actually could be their mother!!

I think I’m around the same age as Sandra bullock. So are you if you are within 5 years.

Np, agreed. See if the coworker does the same thing with women 5 years older than her. I had a coworker years ago who was 15 years older than me and would say things like "around our age."

This. I and others I know say the same thing within about a 0-8 year age difference.

I’m 45, I would say any woman who is late 30s to early 50s is about the same age as me. I can’t imagine being offended by any of them comparing us, either. We are all too old to care about this!

Wait until you're categorized as "over 40" to include people who are 70. LoL.
