How did being tops in the Mid-A and VA work out for these teams that qualified for national playoffs?


3 of the 5 qualified for actual post season play. Only the 06’s made it to the finals in Richmond to be bounced immediately. The rest performed average as far as I know. The 08’s being ranked tops in VA is interesting since that team has lost players and didn’t do great all year really. Rankings should always be taken with a grain of salt. I know that the new rankings app is doing things a bit differently but ranking youth soccer teams is a bit silly. As previous poster mentioned. QP isn’t involved on a regular basis with each team. I’d consider him more of a QC person if anything showing up on match days. VDA coaching on the girls appears like joystick coaching from what I’ve seen from the likes of AS and MW. I know MA is there as well but that move with Herndon felt more like a way to get her in the door with a few players to try to shore up 07’s. All just my personal opinion from observation.


I doubt QP is QC for AS and MW. QP is a businessman.

having lived in Northern Virginia before, 2011 Arlington is probably best team I have seen, and my daughter played against.

Having said that, 2011 Tophat team is probably the best 2011 team I have seen in the last 3 years across all competitions.

Can't deny that QP having HPEB gives him a great avenue to serve it up to talented players all around as well.


Did any other NOVA club have a team advance out of the group stage? Richmond had 1. VDA had 2…

Perhaps how it was worded sounds like propaganda? The 06's made it to Richmond for the finals. The 09's were knocked out by Richmond ending their run in San Diego.

What is joystick coaching?


Constant communication to the field, particularly during matches. Some like it, some believe it doesn’t allow players to feel like they can play free and make mistakes/learn from them. Joystick coaching aka coaching like you’re playing FIFA where you feel like the coach is in complete control rather than letting the team perform what they have been shown in training during the match.
