They were not doing the best they could. E-mail from Fauci in Feb 2020 said that masks are generally useless against respiratory diseases. He also gave conflicting statements in public, at one point telling people not to get masks, ostensibly because he wanted to make sure they were available for health care providers(where it makes more sense, they were always using masks in ICUs even before covid.)

Primarily, the public health officials ignored immunity from infection in favor of pushing a narrative of 'vaccines for all and do not question it.'

Agree. They were doing the best they could at supporting a narrative they wanted and to seem like they were doing something. In all fairness, there isn't much anyone can do to stop a virus from virusing eventually. Look at China, three years of constant lockdowns didn't stop them from the exact same fate as everyone else- just prolonged the inevitable and made people very angry in the process while creating so many more issues due to the lockdowns. The UK has done a really good job at going back and determining the negative consequences of COVID protocols and mitigation efforts which I applaud since that will never happen, at least not in in our lifetime in the US. They've calculated the number of increased deaths from cancer, losses to the economy, mental health issues which were exacerbated and so on. Going back to the vaccine mandates, the US and specifically DC and LA and right next to them NY, are really the outliers in the world. A number of countries didn't even approve the vaccine for healthy children under 12.

I'm surprised to see that Catholic schools are mandating the vaccine. I read that the religious objection had to do with abortion and that the vaccines were made from cells from aborted fetuses or something like that.

Should be obvious to parents who had kids in school that the vaccines did not work. Almost all the kids got vaccinated, and almost all the kids got COVID. None died from it. The mandates were rash and misguided. Let's do better next time. Hey, all the parents got COVID, too.

Lol at still having a vax mandate. No school should . Parents can make that choice. Not the head of a school who is an education expert not a medical expert. My son suffered following his vaccine. There were side Effects for some kids. We wanted to do are part and got the vax which turned out to be a huge mistake for us.

I would bet a huge amount of money that there is zero difference in the rate of serious illness and death from COVID among the kids, their families and staff between schools that required the vaccine and those that didn't, while controlling for background characteristics and adult vaccination rates. Np. The problem is you can't be so flippant like you are saying "some mistakes were made" as if its not actually a big deal. Many people at the time had questions and not only were they silenced, they were completely vilified by people here, people in the community, people on the TV and people in this current administration. So while this is apparently some minor misunderstanding to you, we will NEVER forget what people like you did.

Not perfect, but here's an analogy. Say I have cancer. We all know there are a multitude of treatments for cancer; anything from sit and wait and watch, to chemo, to radiation, to trials of experimental drugs and treatments to well, probably things I have no idea about. Let's say I want to take the sit and wait and watch approach because well, I am young and healthy and its slow moving and while yes, I could be an unlucky one that the odds are still against me, I am willing to take that chance. Let's say my employer though says you can't come to work unless you get chemo treatments. I have heard of negative side effects that can be debilitating and I raise that concern. Yes, I have cancer but it isn't bothering me at this point and after consultation with my doctors, it really doesn't seem to be the best course of treatment for me. My employer not only silences my questioning of the need for it, refuses to listen to my doctor, but also prohibits me from going to work until I get the treatment. Sounds like a very crazy situation, right? Sound familiar at all? Now sure, again, this isn't a perfect analogy- cancer isn't spread generally from person to person outside a very few but you could mostly replace this scenario with the COVID situation.
