So the couple with piles of unnecessary crap stuffed in their bulging pockets is judging me for having a backpack? That’s amazing.

I understand for hiking. But in 2023, in an urban settings what in the world are people carrying around that requires the need for a full backpack.

We travel all of the world and have never had the need for any type of bag to go sightseeing, walking, exploring in a city.

I carry medication in my pocket, my Apple Watch, small wallet and nothing else. DH brings his phone, slim battery back up, small wallet, glasses wipe, tiny flashlight, pepto, small tiny foldable bag which are all in front pants pockets. Slim battery goes in back pocket.

Hubby carries a backpack for water for our family and sometimes sun hats. We don't need flashlights or pepto on a day trip.

Hubby. Hubby! I could start a whole thread on how weird/annoying it is to me that anyone uses the term "hubby"! I won't, but I could.

Grown women that use these babytalk words are truly weird.

Because if I buy something, I don't want to have to hold it. I like keeping my hands free. With a supportive North Face, it's significantly more comfortable to wear all day.

In my backpack, I usually have: wallet, mini toiletry bag, water bottle, a cardigan or layer, sunglasses/case, a snack, pen, and maybe some sort of book.

I'm a female and pretty much none of my clothing has pockets. I also like a water bottle, my wallet (even if I had pockets, wallets don't fit in women's pockets!), cell phone and a snack. Traveling with dh is fondly referred to as "the hunger march", so snacks are essential. I swear that man can go from 7am to 6pm and not eat at all.

I guess if you stay only in large cities, at high end hotels and cab to your location and back without really viewing your locations, you can get by with pesto and a battery.

I'm not sure what this was supposed to say, but I like the idea that pesto is a significant need.

I'm pretty sure it was supposed to say Pepto, which really doesn't make it any better.

Pesto is a significant improvement over Pepto!

This thread is hilarious

Personally, I've never liked hand-held purses or cross body bags, they either hijack one of my hands, or bump across my body in a way I don't like. My winter shoulder bag is too heavy in the heat, so lately I've been going out with a very small, lightweight backpack. It's a cheery bright yellow Petit Bateau that my parents got as a gift after a purchase in one of their stores. I love it.

There are plenty of smaller backpacks that are quite sleek and nice-looking, OP. That way you can wear cute clothes and not be married to the lumberjack look!

OP, you don’t drink water all day? Or you stop frequently to buy it?

This reminds me of a time I went through security and customs behind a man whose only baggage was a white plastic shopping bag. His pockets were full of all kinds of things though. It was amazing. I would have been annoyed, but I was too fascinated by the idea of flying internationally with nothing but a CVS bag and some stuff in my pockets. Where was he going? What was he doing? I wanted to know his whole life story.

Right? I don't even go into my own city without a backpack. OP has no imagination.
