Everyone here recognizes that nasty stuff happens out of our view. That doesn’t mean we’re going to not speak up when it happens in front of us or when we have some control over it.

We can’t control everything; I can’t worry too much about what I can’t see.

If I see it, though—such as ratty, stained gloves—I can’t ignore it.

Right.

That’s why we ask them to change their gloves before they make our order, PP. That’s the whole point.

There’s no way I’m trusting that some teen has adequately washed their bare hands enough to touch my food.

Do you worry about the detriment to the environment of all that latex waste? To me that's far more worrisome than the extremely unlikely chance of getting food poisoning. But I guess you only care about yourself.

How silly.

Assume their are several folks in front of you in line. The worker is touching the cooking equipment door handles, the serving spoons, the condiment containers, etc. They might even stand around touching their clothing as they wait for a sub to finish toasting.

Would it bother you if, when it’s your turn, they don’t change their gloves?

🧐🧐

That's the main reason I no longer eat out. And those nasty long fingernails ? HELL NO.

+1 I think our bodies are equipped to deal with many things. While I think regular handwashing is important, I do not think its a big deal to go from one sandwich to the next.

Theoretically, you’re supposed to wash your hands every time you change gloves, and change gloves every time you switch tasks because you can’t wash them.

Honestly they’re mostly theater.

If what you’re worried about is getting food borne illness, you would probably do better focusing on how the food was stored and prepared, and whether the employees have paid sick leave and whether they appear healthy.

Something I’ve learned from DCUM though is that a lot of you are deeply weird and irrational about “germs” and “dirt.”

+1. I generally think that people that are this neurotic about this stuff should just never eat out. They are so concerned about this stuff, but don't realize how stupid it is when you have NO idea how everything is being handled, prepared, and stored out of your sight. Honestly, if you are this germ phobic just eat at home. You have no idea of what goes on in the kitchen, and you really don't want to if this is how you feel......

so. true.

I tell the people at subway to change their gloves. I say it nicely. They do. It’s no big deal.
