Ask for a larger portion of salad and vegetable side dishes-fill up on veggies and soup. Get the salad dressing on the side-and same for any sauces on your main course! You can drizzle it on for flavor. Have a few bites of dessert and a glass of wine so you don't feel like you are missing out.

We sailed with Royal Caribbean recently and I had planned to do scrambled eggs and fruit for breakfast and hit the buffet salad bar for lunch, but it really didn't work out -- the scrambled eggs were powdered and disgusting (there were made-to-order omelets as well, but the line was too long for me to put up with), and fruit was the same every day: pineapple, watermelon, cantelope and whole apples/oranges. That was it. The salad offerings on the buffet were not good -- iceberg lettuce and spring mix, with the spring mix being so limp I didn't want it; shredded carrots; cherry tomatoes; green peppers; and balsamic vinaigrette and ranch. Basically you could make yourself a salad that would be about on the level of what you could get at McDonald's.

So yeah, I thought healthy eating would come easily, and it really didn't. The food on the cruise was so bad, I basically ate what I could tolerate.

I did not realize Royal Caribbean was so bad!

We sailed with them in February 2023 and were surprised and disappointed at how the food had gone downhill since the previous cruise in 2019.

What a bummer; I’m about to go on a cruise with them. I don’t even like cruises, but I was looking forward to the food.

So eat normally, don't over indulge, no desserts, no booze. If you have a gigantic plate of food put in front of you, don't think you need to eat all of it, just maybe half or one third of it. Eat more slowly and stop when you know you should stop.

If you've lost weight then I would try to keep as closely to how you eat now, despite being away. It's going to be about choices - get the salad but avoid the bacon and cheese and the thick creamy dressing, etc.

Skip the breakfast buffet altogether. Just do activities or relax at the pool. Don’t be around all that food all day.

Uh, no, eat like a normal person. Do not starve yourself all day.

Oh those were the days! Family vacations with my hangry short tempered mom and my hungover dad. Guess who else didn’t get to eat til 4 pm? That’s right! The children! Your kids will have some special memories for sure!

There are some good tips here ... I opened the thread because I need to drop about 5 pounds in a SANE way.

I would say, any day that you're not actively working out, add a 30-minute walk. And don't drink your calories.

Have fun!

Or just don’t eat the whole time. Guys did it in high school all the time. It was no big deal.

Seriously, WTF? 😳

Did you indulge? Did you eat a lot?
