There is no way they could possibly be thinking a Jan 31 deadline for spring rec is feasible. Our regular registration is open into March.

That's the thing, they know travel. They don't really understand rec soccer issues (one of which is how many kids at SFL team ages register really, really late.)

I don't think it will fall through b/c NCSL thinks they can turn a profit and want to position themselves as "THE" soccer league at least in northern VA. But I think it will not go smoothly, agree with pp that they may be thinking it will run just like their travel side when org's staff their travel side with paid admins but use rec volunteers for the rec side.

I think you know what would happen. The travel parents would get angry, and the club would eventually lose players/teams/MONEY.

But you've got me thinking of something...: Rec teams vs lower tier travel teams as a travel team fundraiser.

Let's say rec team puts up $200 to play against a travel team.
Travel team keeps $200 to use toward whatever (like tournament registration fees).
Rec team plays for fun and bragging rights.

Our club has scrimmages. From what I've seen, top travel team win big and second or third teams really struggle against good rec teams.

Exactly. Especially at the HS ages where kids just don't want to travel anymore but still want to play soccer (and drop club for HS soccer). Some of those players are really good!

I think NCSL is going to have a lot of issues with this merger. They are already behind on putting out information.

They are used to dealing with PAID club representatives working out of offices and running travel teams. Rec players register later -especially at the older teen ages--and rec age groups are run helter-skelter by volunteers, not paid employees sitting at desks.

No idea who that is, did they have SFL teams
Last year?

DCSC is the old Stoddert. One of the biggest members of NCSL.

Never heard of them, we only played Soccer on the Hill from DC>

SFL usually sent an email out in early Jan with Feb deadlines for rosters, team signups, field loading, etc. We need to know how NCSL is going to structure the divisions and league before we can set up our spring teams-are they changing any age groups or birthdate rules? How many divisions per age group? Are they keeping the rule that everyone must play 50% of the game? Are they changing any rules on dual rostering? etc etc.

Are they going to seperate travel from rec or just place rec in the bottom travel brackets.

Some of the rec teams would be above the travel teams if they just had one league. That would be bad for NCSL's profits, so: no. The thing they care about most is keeping rec divisions separate from travel. I am hoping at least they combine the field and referee scheduling as SFL scheduling and re-scheduling was very inefficient.

CYA registration states NCSL rec as their league but NCSL has nothing on their home page
