This is Allen's area! We neighbors are in disbelief that he hasn't mentioned it. I notified friends outside these blocks myself. The police haven't even mentioned (to my knowledge) that this was a carjacking attempt. No matter where you are in DC, please be careful when you are getting in and out of your car.

This isn't an isolated event - we are constantly worrying about our tires getting stolen overnight (happens multiple times a month), getting mugged (has happened to two neighbors in the last few months), getting carjacked (happens ALL THE TIME NOW), and now worried about getting shot by juveniles while getting carjacked. WTF is wrong with this city?
DC Police and elected officials have been very slow to respond (and some haven't responded at all).
This guy survived the Taliban but then gets shot by kids in DC. They were trying to steal his car. This was a CARJACKING ATTEMPT turned deadly. It's awful, just awful. I hope they find these kids. I hope our elected officials start punishing these criminals (I don't care how old they are, if they are brandishing a gun they should be tried as adults) and move the needle in the other direction.
I didn't even bother to register where in DC this happened... surprised about the location... so close to the Hill. Sad.
It happened in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, amongst million dollar townhomes and 10 blocks from the U.S. Capitol. People need to wake up. This wasn't a targeted crime. It was random. I think a lot of us sleep a little easier when we think about how all the crime around us is targeted - but it's not. This is too much. DC Council, wake up. Your voters are frustrated. Neighbors are already talking about voting out certain council members.
The good voters of Capitol Hill gave us Mr. Charles Allen. His fingerprints are all over the crime crisis. Please do better in the next election.
