Your daughter didn't "make a lot of money". She was given "a lot of money" because neighbors were too nice to say no. There was a group of girls in our neighborhood who went around trying to sell painted rocks on a weekly basis last summer. After giving them $5 twice, I asked them to help me with weeding and I would pay them. They laughed, said no, and never came back.

Mom is really looking for someone to entertain her kid so she doesn't have to interact at the park. This is why most people have more than 1 kid. There's a built in playmate right there so you don't have to pay a stranger's 5 year old to hang out.

I’m sorry but that is sketchy as all get out. It sounds like mom essentially wants $5 to take your kid to the playground and not watch them. There’s a few unsupervised feral kids in my neighborhood who are always going door to door trying stuff like this - “can we watch your kid, like, in the common area for $10? No? Ok can we have a snack?” And they are sketchy as hell and I witnessed one taking a scooter out of a much younger kid’s yard when the kid was not home and then leaving it in a random spot when they were done. I know an 11 year old like this. He's always trying to come up with ways to make money. He has a good little business of taking his neighbor's trash cans to the curb for pickup. Recently he also bought a bunch of Prime drinks that were hard to find and was reselling to the kids at school for a tidy profit. He's always trying to find new ways to make money. He doesn't need the money, that' just how his mind works.


Oh I love this! I would pay a neighbor kid for this

I don't see it as any different than a lemonade stand. Wouldn't let my child be pushy but otherwise seems fine. That being said my DH got upset that a (somewhat bratty) child in our neighborhood overcharged me for something lol


Its not like a lemonade stand if you are soliciting door to door. Set up your table of crafts and let buyers come to you. Then it’s like a lemonade stand. Skip the door knocking.

So, depending on the facts—for example, if a supervised kid falls off playground equipment—the cause of action could potentially be against a parent who is supervising the entrepreneurial kid-supervisor.

Yeah or they like the babysitters club books or something. It's not weird, guys. It's a little young for it but not weird. Lots of humorless people on this thread. I see 5-6yo girls sometimes who love to play with my 3yo girl almost like she's a baby doll, I think it's sweet (though of course I supervise).
