We had one girl get pregnant in college who put the baby up for adoption. She was visibly pregnant for a majority of a school year, so everyone knew.

She stayed with the dad and married him after graduation. From FB, I think they have three more kids now and are still married.

One acquaintance at UVA was pregnant at graduation (not planned). She ended up marrying the father (he lived in town, wasn’t a student). Her sorority kicked her out, which I thought was pretty awful.

I remember a kid in my dorm first year left school after a few weeks. He claimed he’d gotten his gf pregnant. Years later anothwe friend form our dorm ran into him and he confessed he was just homesick/school wasn’t a good fit.

Freshman can be a single 17 or married 22, not everyone is a traditional student doing things at average speed.

Having the baby, very uncommon

+1. Especially in the North East. We fought for women’s rights for a reason.

Obviously, not to say it doesn't happens in other groups but at a much lower rate.

+1

Statistically it’s low SES and community colleges where 50% or less never graduate nor can afford it so go to work manual labor jobs or have the baby.

Also, statistically pregnancy is uncommon at that age bracket (18-22).

I graduated pretty recently and went to community college before university. No one I went to college with, friends, or study group was visibly pregnant.

The only mothers I went to school with were already mothers (late 20s) and had what seemed to be school aged children 1-3 students.

This was in Florida in the exFoster, low socioeconomic, minority, first-gen and native communities.

plenty of women get pregnant in college and have abortions and never tell anyone. same in private and wealthy high schools.

you just know about the poor kids having kids because they haven't terminated.

^ I posted this. I wanted to add that the families were very involved with the babies so the parents could finish school. MC and UMC.

One former high school friend at a different school, one acquaintance, many abortions. Possibly some girls dropped out or transferred and went home to have the baby. But no, having a baby in college was not common at my big state school.

Be smart. Use birth control.

I knew two senior year (not super close friends of mine), none before that.

Of course, I presume there were some abortions in there that I didn't know about, but no close friends.

Because they aren’t into abortions?

DP I think that is more repeating familiar patterns and self-sabotage. Maybe more frequent in young women not at university. All the sex education, free condoms and Planned Parenthood in the world can’t combat what they view as a normal rite of passage. That said, pregnancy rates have gone way down for teen girls. It is wonderful that most are finishing high school , college and can envision a life where motherhood is postponed until they are emotionally/financially more capable.
