They care about DC because that’s the capital and the reason all those towns in DC exist. So yes, they very much do care.

I’m not telling you how to spend your money. I’m telling you why the government cares. You work for the Government so you’re one of the affected employees. The argument that it is not the responsibility of federal employees to support downtown is moot because you work for the entity designed to care. If you don’t, that’s fine, but it’s not an invalid reason for the employer even if the employee doesn’t like it.

Right? I've never understood this restaurant argument. Why is the DC restaurant more important than my neighborhood restaurant? I'm actually eating a lot more at the local small business sandwich place five minutes from my house than I ever did at the fast food joint across from my office. And based on their lunch hour business, the local place would really hurt if more people returned to 2019 work positions.

We are told that's important. Used to be called "wasting time" before Covid but now it's called "corroboration." We even have "corroboration" rooms that are empty. No clue what we are supposed to do in there.
