Uhhhmmm, 45 is actually a really common age to have school aged children.


I had my child at 41, he wasn't even in ES when I was 45.

Well I wish I had found this sooner. We bought in the neighborhood last year and my kids will be attending in 2024-2025 school year. I'm really hoping it's not that bad here.

This is absolutely true. The Meadows community was used by Kathy Smith for all day K at PT. FCPS was slow rolling all day K at the time and schools with l more at risk kids were getting it first. PT was one of very few ES to have all day K at the time. Think Brookfield and London Towne also had it. People moved to PT just for the all day K (my parents neighbor did). Once all day K was voted in Kathy shifted the Meadows community to VA Run as part of the Clifton Elem shutdown/boundary change. I followed this issue closely back in the day, even going to school board meetings, and will never vote for Kathy Smith because of it. Shame on her.


+1. I still live in one of the communities she screwed over. She never comes out this way for public events, or even to visit the schools she blindsided when she was still on the board.

My student is also at PTES and while it's mostly been okay, there is absolutely a climate of favoritism. My child has also experienced a fair amount bullying, which I don't feel the school has done enough to quelch despite recurrent targeting by the same student. I'm disappointed to hear about the racism. I'm not discounting your experience, but our student's class has also been very diverse, so I (apparently incorrectly) assumed there was a more inclusive approach.

It is validating to hear about the negative experiences folks have had at PTES. Our kid has been going there for over a year and we are shocked at the level of covert racism and overt favoritism. It's clear that the administration does not care and have given free reign to "certain" teachers to give preferential treatment to kids whose parents suck up to them. It's very cliquey and truly disheartening. Plus it seems your child gets penalized for bringing up any concerns with the teacher/admin. We regret our decision of moving for this school.

Yup! My kid was one of the meadows kids that went to poplar tree elementary school for one year. Yeah I lived in a mobile home for a couple years while building my life back up after getting out of a very abusive marriage. Scummy Smith.

You must be new here. Kathy Smith was the Sully School Board Rep before she became Supervisor. Generally, the SB rep from the district has the power to decide what happens in their own district. Then, the remainder of the SB goes along with it. That way, the other SB members will get the "say" in their districts. 'I scratch your back, you scratch mine."

The kids from that neighborhood were at Poplar Tree all along. She had them moved in 2011. There were far fewer lower income families with children who lived there prior to the recession.
