I used to try hard to spend all of my foreign currency before returning home. Now I just save the euros for my next trip.

I like having cash in the local currency (use it for tips, bus fare, toilets, and small purchases—some shops have a credit card minimum).

Just got back from Spain and actually did need Euros for a few things here and there but spent only about 100 (a few taxis, left a few Euros as tips when we got excellent service). We got the Euros at a Banco Santander in Madrid and were charged 7 Euros to use the ATM!

One other tip: Take Ubers if you are more than 2 people - they are cheap and it was cheaper to get the Uber than take public transport in some places.

In Korea tipping is considered an insult, as they take pride in their occupations.

That said I still left money for housekeeping, I just know that’s a hard job.
