I am fairly active, 5’8, 42y, Female. My watch says my daily active calorie usage is something like 900 per day.

I would check it out. I’ve never used a weight/food/activity this effective and stress free.

I am active in my gym and know many personal trainers and they all consume upwards of 2200-2500 a day and a LOT or protein. I know one guy who was eating 3500 calories a day because of his goals.

It’s hard to believe that eating more can be the answer but very low calories messes with metabolism as we get older, especially women.

How much is Noom? I wonder if I should give it a try. Working through food issues and wanting to lose fat but I also want to way cut down on the drinking which is probably why I’ve gained weight.

I weigh less than you, but I also take an antidepressant that messes with my feelings of satiety. So now I have to be more careful and pay attention to how much I’m eating. Just know that you are lucky that your brain chemistry allows you to manage food appropriately and that not everyone is so lucky. I could go off my antidepressant and have debilitating anxiety….or I can count calories and deal with feelings of hunger. #2 is the better option for me and my family.

Average 1300 -1400 to maintain, some days more and others less. . I would like to add some muscle which means more lifting more protein and perhaps a slight calorie add but would also bump my metabolism and generally be healthier. My bmr is quite low, as I discovered when I did dexafit but I also don’t get super hungry. I eat one medium meal and one light meal/day. No snacking but I do like the glass of wine or bit of chocolate after dinner; hard to fit that in and get adequate nutrition. I understand this seems like an eating disorder but it’s not, it’s what it is when you are small, old, abs not very muscular or athletic (I’m finally returning to exercise in addition to walking, now that I’m post knee surgery but I took off 6 mo with injury and lost so much muscle.

FYI (I’m 5’1”, 115, early 50s).

I'm middle-aged, fine-boned and petite, and need about 900-1200 calories a day to stay at my goal weight. So smaller portions of everything and more fiber, because it's easy to become constipated. With that nutritional goal, it's really not good to eat junk, so I end up eating very clean: leafy greens, berries, lean protein, whole grains, etc. I love milk, and drink quite a lot of it, so I also take that into account.

LOL! I was fine-boned too.... and 5'4' until last year and now I am having medium bones as I put on some 20 lbs at 52! If you are white, you aren't fine-boned, plus you totally have an eating disorder.
You should have seen how fine my bones I was when younger with all of my 107 lbs! Where did my fine bones go now????????????????????

Are you me?

Unfortunately, some of us don’t get those signals. I try to do everything they tell us to do — mindful eating, eating protein or fiber to keep my stomach full, staying hydrated, etc., but I’m usually hungry shortly after. If I do weight training, I’m even more famished. In other words, I am always hungry.

I am 5’2” and 185 lbs, and cannot lose weight on 1500 calories/day. I am going ton try 1200.day and see what happens, though it leaves me really hungry.

I'm 5'7" and currently about 138. I'm pretty small framed so this is definitely carrying extra for me. I unexpectedly gained about 8 lbs the second half of last year and would like to get back to around 130, which is where I feel most comfortable. To do that I prob have to be under 1400 cal/day. Not going well so far as its hard to switch 40 years of not having to worry about what you eat. But trying to make healthier choices, control portions, get steps in every day and now working with a personal trainer 1x/week and trying to lift 2-3x/week total.

How much exercise with this? im 48 as well, at 1500/1600 with 30-60 minutes of exercise dai;y, i started counting when i dropped from 160 to 135, still not sure if i can increase a bit to maintain or this is what need to stay on.

For the past 6 months, I’ve been exercising almost daily (mostly for my mental health). In addition to walking, I have a little gym set up in my garage where I do about 30-45 minutes a day of something resembling HIIT that probably isn’t. I do a mix of cardio (jumping jacks, box jumps, skaters, high knees, etc.), plus body weight exercises (squats, lunges, glute bridges, push-ups, etc.), but we just got a squat rack, so I’ve been slowly adding in more weight training. Still a newbie with that, though.

5'8", started at 153 lbs and am working my way -- slowly this time! -- back down to 135, which is my happy weight.

I eat between 1300 - 1500/day, and have been losing between 1 - 2 lbs per week. Daily steps are ~12k. I also practice vinyasa yoga + take occasional Barre3 classes.
