Right. I'm sure Woods Academy and St. John's would like to forget their graduate who was found guilty of stockpiling guns in his closet, plotting to kill the President and carjacking an elderly man at the mall.

I understand the bad rep of Landon bc I have lived in the area for a number of years and attended another popular boys school in the area. However, I do not understand how Landon contributed to his crime. He attended Mater Dei for 8 years and UVA for 4 years. None of those institutions are being talked about as contributing to his demise. I do not think they should just like I do not feel Landon should be blamed. Would GH have had a different attitude heading to UVA if he attended Gonzaga or Prep? It is the lax culture, lack of parenting and alcohol/drugs they lead him down that path.

So do I. This article posted today on Inside Lacrosse.com also concurs that while George Huguely was ultimately the one responsible for his actions, the culture at UVA and lacrosse in particular contributed to the horrific murder.

I buy the lax culture argument.

Yes, they were both produced by the same culture. But GH is one former student and it's very sad no one in his life intervened to help him. The cheaters were a large group enrolled at the school taking the test as "Landon students." I'm sure every school has former students that they'd like to erase from their alumni rolls.

I disagree about GH being a blip compared to the SAT. However, both GH and SAT were produced by the same LAX culture.

It is too bad. Landon is a good school and has a lot of nice families, but I think the SAT scandal was the low point and it has taken a long time to get over that. GH is a blip in comparison, but also a manifestation of the issues brought to light from the cheating scandal.

All correct, pp. However, Landon has a long and ongoing reputation problem due to their general behavior. It's too bad.

Right, a more recent example. Not many would suggest that Yale is a terrible school or deeply antithetical to women's rights (at least, I'd argue that most would not), but they've had a rash of issues with things like the fraternity they kicked off campus, the football player accused of sexual assault, etc. I would be willing to bet that most administrators, at most of the area schools, thought: "There but for the Grace of God go we" when the Huguely case happened. No doubt the sting was worse for Landon because of its fame for lacrosse and the UVA Lax connection, but unfortunately substance abuse and/or mental illness can happen in any community.

The reputation thing may be an issue with potential parents but colleges are sophisticated enough to know that any school/college can have a student or alum commit a crime; eg remember when the Harvard student murdered her roommate?

Wait til Middle School or High School. It's Jock Land and although her DS may be very talented, he won't be respected.

He is thoughtful, well-spoken, polite, and is very happy that he decided to transfer to Landon. To the OP, if your question is a serious one, there are people that hate this school or that school and you will find lots of people willing to engage with you on an thread like this. If you really want to know about a school, talk to parents and families that actually go there. And who will speak to you without hiding behind a cloack of anonimity. I can only speak for our family and our son: I was honestly nervous a bit at first about Landon because of threads like this one, and am glad I trusted my gut. We have been incredibly happy with our decision. I'm glad we didn't listen to the buzz and insteadf made a decision that we felt was right for our son. I'm sure you will do the same.

You are kidding yourself.
