I’ve never seen any kids at our high school wear them.

My kid has a sport jacket — I’m not sure if that’s the letterman jaacket. It is nylon or something and doesn’t look like the leather and wool ones that we had in HS. It says her sport on it. She does wear it because it’s a good jacket for fall and spring. I think especially on game days but probably otherwise too. It’s mostly black (one of her school colors) so maybe that makes it more hip.

I am a Three Year Letterman, wear my jacket to all home games and sit in the student section which always gives me a standing ovation.

LOL. My first impression when I read the thread title was about a jacket celebrating David Letterman.

Exactly. Teens wear their team hoodie. That's it. That's the thing.

I don't know what to tell some of you, at our HS in Fairfax kids still wear them (when it's actually cold enough). Most of the varsity players on my kid's team have them. It's probably not like when I was in HS and everyone had them. But a sizeable number def have and wear them.

It seems like there is always something that youth avoids because it supposedly detracts from them expressing their individuality. I would imagine many kids see these jackets in that light. Ironically, they often end up expressing their “individuality” in the same way as countless others; these days tattoos, piercings, etc.

I still have mine from the 1980s. My daughter at DC private did not get a letter until she graduated even though she was on varsity since freshman year. In my DC's sport - most of the kids wore the boat jacket. I don't think the school even had a jacket.
