Same in our McLean neighborhood. HS destinations, HS graduations & college destinations and the occasional birthday. I like seeing all the signs!


I like seeing all the signs, but the Google car will record all that information. Depends how private you are.

I think the birthday ones are especially problematic with regard to identity theft.

My DC received a sign at one of the admitted student days but didn't choose that school. They did not have these at other admitted student events. Nothing in mail from the school they chose. I see some of these around in my neighborhood.

Also we have a few neighbors that buy the school flag to hang at their porch. A few of our neighbors do this - rotating flags for various schools they are associated with (themselves or kids) and for professional sports teams throughout the year. It's not bragging - just celebrating.

My parents were like this. "We don't do bumper stickers," etc. They thought it was bragging and that was bad manners.

It's not always bragging. If it's an out of state school, a unique choice, it's interesting. I don't mind the advertising. It's a big wide world out there and anything that gets people thinking about other possibilities is a good thing.

We put up one for DC and so many alum have come to talk to her/us. It's been nice for community-building.

I live in a close-in suburb of Chicago and see college yard signs from time to time

My guess is Notre Dame. Have never seen a state flagship sign (UofI, UMich, UW - though some houses may have the traditional flag), but plenty of Notre Dame signs, along with whichever Catholic private the kid(s) go to.
