My (now former) SIL used to do something similar with my nephew but she shaved his head. Not in a cute summer buzzcut way, but in a "he looks ill, is he ok" way. He was basically bald. It was awful. I don't know if it was some sort of power play or what, but his school photos all through elementary school make him look sickly.


I mean, it isn't DH's fault the barber didn't cut it well. And at 7, DS should be able to choose his own haircut without it causing a fight between his parents. Like, I get OP doesn't like the haircut but it is completely absurd to turn it into this big deal. Let your kid get what he wants. If they truly butchered it, go get it cleaned up. Arguing with your husband about this is way worse than a bad haircut.

I would be mad. At 7, I would feel that DC haircut can be a reflexion of me as a parent. But, agree it will grow back and I wouldn’t let DC know how much I hate it.

My bigger concern would be more important decisions as DC gets older. You need to figure out with DH and get in the same page.

Even if kid doesn't like it, it isn't a big deal. Just run to someplace over the weekend and get it fixed. I don't see how this is a big deal at all.

That's dumb, I assume you don't have a girl but who knows.

Does your spouse usually defer to the young child to make decisions on what to eat, what to do, what to wear, what type of haircut. My spouse is indecisive in the ADHD overwhelmed way so constantly blames his own kids for goofy stuff or things gone awry under his parental watch. Hope your situation is not that.
